Glacier elopement in alaska

Why they loved it:
Exploring deep into the mountains, without hiking.  Ceremony beside a glacier-blue melt pool to finding a hidden waterfall, plus a rainbow in between...

This inspirational elopement adventure highlights the beauty of a luxury --yet adventurous -- glacier wedding and Alaska’s diverse landscapes.

Scroll below to see the story of this two-day elopement vision come to life.

It's too hard to decide what to see & do.  Is it possible to experience more of the environments that make Alaska so special?

Elopement Vision:

Why Choose a Glacier Elopement in Alaska?

Eloping in Alaska isn’t just about the views—it’s about the experience.

Because of that --despite the incredible amount of fun and amazing experiences Kristin & Oliver experienced across their two days-- this adventure wasn’t about checking off a list of scenic stops.

Not at all...

In the spirit of how I craft all my luxury destination elopements or intimate weddings, it was about taking time...

...Moving  with intention through wild spaces....

..And, crafting a completely personal experience.

I designed & photographed this elopement inspiration to showcase how couples just like you can create a luxury destination elopement that feels immersive, personal, and completely private.

From remote alpine meadows via a UTV machine, to a helicopter-accessed glacier, this multi-day experience prioritized connection, movement, and once-in-a-lifetime landscapes.

Let's see & explore their 2-day adventure below:

Day One: Mountains + Water by UTV Ride

The beginning of the adventure focused on the "earth" elements of the landscape:

Getting Ready

The journey began at a quiet lakeside cabin, overlooking a body of water that doubles as a floatplane runway.

While I'd originally organized this wonderful lodging for that fact, that type of flight option wasn’t needed this time.

But
, that unique factor adds another dimension of adventure possible for another elopement!

With laughter and light banter, between K & O as they got ready and then wrote out their vows, the cabin was a wonderfully quiet spot and scenic setting for the intimacy of getting ready together.

A peaceful launch point for the adventure ahead.

UTV Adventure–Water!

From there, we hopped in their off-road ready jeep and headed up the winding and scenic mountain road up through Hatchers Pass, nearish to Anchorage.

The destination?  An adventurous guide service to take us on a private, completely bespoke UTV ride

With only the direction of "we want to see the places you go when you want beauty and solitude," our amazing guide took us on a UTV ride deep into the backcountry of the pass.

Though they'd only driven a UTV machine one time before, K took the wheel and quickly realized how much she LOVED it.

Bouncing over the dirt tracks, crossing creeks and muddy passes, this Hatchers Pass adventure elopement activity took them through shifting landscapes, from dense forests to open ridgelines....

As we pulled up and started exploring a beautiful alpine lake tucked into the valley, the moody skies parted, sunlight broke through.

In that moment, the lake gleamed with the most surreal mirror reflections of the mountain and sky.

With the sky and earth vibrant around them, they stood on the far side of the lake. A beautiful, private spot to read each other Part One of their vows-inspired celebration.

And as if it couldn't get better, a rainbow appeared in the mist against the lush mountains....  An unexpected moment that aligned perfectly with the couple’s love of color and vibrance.

They toasted the mountain elopement beauty  with fresh mountain water and delightfully rainbow-colored macarons that served as a highly portable wedding cake!

Wild Blueberries

Taking the adventure elopement further up Hatcher Pass, we stopped at a high-elevation meadow blanketed in wild blueberry bushes—taking time to pick fresh berries, savoring the sweet-tart burst of flavor.

The luxury of time
during an elopement--whether on a glacier or deep in the mountains-- allows for experiences and play and moments of spontaneity that create the most amazing memories.

Creekside Picnic

As the sun dipped lower, the day ended with a luxury Creekside picnic.

Next to the babbling brook and the soft light, the delicious charcuterie feast and stories of the day were a wonderful, intimate close to the day before heading back to the cabin to rest up for day two.

Day Two: Helicopter Vows, Glacier Blue Pools & a Hidden Waterfall

The first landing brought them to the remote areas of the Knik glacier, an expanse of untouched ice stretching in every direction.

There, next to a melt pool of clear, light-blue water, with their heli pilot as their "officiant", they told stories of favorite experiences together and celebrated Part 2 of the vows-style ceremony.

The contrast was striking—bright white ice against the delicate transparency of the water, reflecting the sky like glass.

The silence here was unlike anything else, interrupted only by the occasional sound of shifting ice in the distance. It was a setting that felt vast, yet intimate, as if time had briefly paused.

Stop One: Vows at a Glacier Blue Pool

The second day began with a private helicopter flight deep into Alaska’s glacier backcountry, soaring over the Knik glacier valleys and ice-covered peaks.

The vastness of the terrain below—braided rivers, ancient icefields, and sheer rock faces—set the tone for a day built around movement and immersion.
Exchanging elopement vows beside a glacier-blue melt pool in Alaska is a breathtaking experience that stays with you forever.
Next, the helicopter carried them to a high alpine lake hidden among craggy peaks.

From the air, the water looked impossibly blue—a deep, saturated color that stood out against the dark rock and fresh snow dusting the summits.

Up close, the shoreline was alive with fall colors—bright red blueberry bushes, and deep greens still holding on.

It was the perfect place for Part 3 of the vows-inspired ceremony, helping us show a completely different kind of beauty than the glacier, yet just as powerful.

Stop Two: A High Alpine Lake & Vibrant Fall Colors

The final stop was a delightful surprise—a hidden waterfall tumbling from the side of a mountain, spilling down toward the glacier below.

At its base sat an unexpected green oasis, where moss and alpine plants clung to the rocky outcrop.

After exploring and laughing in the drenching mist, we loaded up and headed back in to the helicopter hangar.  Swooping over the glacier one last time, we marveled at the colors of the ice walls, and peered happily out the window as K and our pilot spotted all the moose below.

A magic day, FILLED with unbelievable sights and experiences.

Stop Three: A Hidden Waterfall on the Glacier’s Edge
